February 2023 Craftalong

In 2018, we had #yarnuary on the fediverse, which was a less-organized version of a craftalong. We're going to do it again, though with a different name: #Fiberuary.

The goal is to show each other the various yarn-related things we're making or have made at any point in the past. It would be great if you could post at least once a week, with a photo if possible (alt text, please!), and with the hashtag #Fiberuary.

This can be knitting, crochet, tatting, embroidery, weaving, handspun yarn, bobbin lace, nalbinding, or whatever handmade stringy thing you like to do. You can ask questions, or post things you want to show off, or just show your work in progress, whether you're a beginner or have been making yarny things for sixty years.

I've also come up with some ideas for general things to learn about for each week of Yarnuary, if you'd like a little learning challenge. I hope these themes will be useful for as many yarn crafts as possible, and for both beginners and experts.

Fiber arts not listed below are absolutely welcome! these are just the ones we had the last time we did this.

These challenges are not necessarily for finished objects - I made a sampler lat time and might do the same thing again.

Here's some starting ideas, linked to search engine results; they are by no means the only options! Make sure to check out stitch dictionaries or instructional sites. Also, feel free to ask for ideas on the hashtag; I've been doing lots of fiber arts over the last forty years, and will maybe at least have some ideas about where to look. Other people will also have good ideas!

Please feel free to offer suggestions on the fediverse! Here's where to reach me: @gannet
